MPM PAC and HSE Quarterly Drilling Engagement Session

MPM-PAC Drilling Engagement Session (MPDES) and HSE engagement meeting have always been conducted by Wells Management-Resource Management, MPM on a quarterly basis. The main objectives of MPDES are to share lessons learned, hold dialogues for rolled out guidelines/standards and identify drilling rig sharing and farming-in strategic alignments. On the other hand, the main objectives of HSE engagement are to review HSE performance and share drilling HSE related lessons learned across all PACs and rig contractors. All previous meetings have been conducted in the PETRONAS Twin Towers.

For 3rd Quarter 2018 event, these two engagement sessions have been combined and conducted at INSTEP PETRONAS on 27th September 2018.  The main purpose for the newly suggested venue is to introduce INSTEP facilities and capabilities to all the PACs drilling and HSE representatives as well as the drilling rig contractors. This helps to promote INSTEP achieve its aspiration to be "A Leading Partner of Choice in Oil and Gas Technical Learning and Certification".

The event started with opening remarks by En M Zulkifli Zakaria, Head of Wells Management, MPM and continued with welcoming speech by En Wan Muzani Wan Muda, INSTEP Head Strategic Planning.

The session was then advanced with the following presentations:

  • SLIM HOLE Drilling Guideline (SHoD): Paving the way for lower well cost by En Malik Faisal Abdullah, Principal Wells Management, MPM.
  • BERGADING HPHT Drilling: Lessons learned and way forward by Mr Wayne Pirie, HPHT Drilling Advisor, HESS Malaysia.
  • Upstream Malaysia HSE Performance by En M Fahmi Yusrin, Head HSE Planning and Performance, MPM
  • WEST CAPELLA: Operating in Monsoon by Mr Henrik Johannesen, Technical Manager, SEADRILL
  • INSTEP: Training and Facilities by En Aznan Ngah, INSTEP Learning Consultant

  • 2018/19 Monsoon Safety Campaign (focusing on Fatigue Management System and Security Encroachment) by Hj M Nasir M Yunus, Head of Drilling, MPM

The first half day of the event was recapped in closing remarks by En M Zulkifli Zakaria.

After lunch break, the event resumed with the visit to INSTEP training facilities. The participants were divided into two groups and guided by INSTEP instructors to visit overall campus setup, land drilling rig Naga-100, drilling simulator and Upstream Downstream Training Plant (UDTP).

It's really an eye opener visit for all the participants as most of them have never set foot at INSTEP.  Besides achieving MPM objectives of the event, the participants were introduced to INSTEP capabilities. It is with the hope that more oil & gas companies in Malaysia engage INSTEP for their personnel training and development in the future.
